Can someone sell my phone that was lost or possibly stolen?

No, ePelican.com does not purchase any device that has been reported lost or stolen at the time of sale. When we inspect an item, we make sure that the ESN associated with it has been deactivated before issuing payment by using CheckMEND. We pay them to run background checks on every device we receive.

ESN stands for Electronic Serial Number. This number acts as an individual identifier for a mobile device, and each one will have its own specific number. When someone reports to their carrier and the authorities that they have lost their phone, the ESN will be altered to indicate that information.

If a phone or tablet has been reported lost or stolen, the ESN number will come up as bad, indicating that someone has reported it lost. We will always try to get in contact with the owner of a device we receive in this condition. The majority of phones have the ability to be locked to save your information even if you don’t have the phone in your possession anymore.

The Find My iPhone feature on iPhones allow you to lock the iPhone and enables you to input a phone number or email address to appear on the screen when it is turned on again. If we ever see this message, we will get in contact with the rightful owner of the phone and verify information to return the phone back.
